# Copy a Module

Duplicate an existing custom module or template in PEARS.

Copying a module creates a new module with the same sections, fields, and options as the original. This is useful when you need a similar module with minor variations, or when you want to create a template from an existing module.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Navigate to the module detail page

From the Module Builder list, click on the module you want to copy.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Click Copy

Click the **Actions** button and select **Copy** to open the copy form.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Enter a New Module Name

In the **New Module Name** field, enter a name for the new module (up to 50 characters). PEARS pre-fills this field with "Copy of" followed by the original module's name.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Enter a New Module Slug

In the **New Module Slug** field, enter a unique slug for the new module (up to 27 characters). The slug must contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. PEARS pre-fills this field with the original module's slug followed by `_copy`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select a Menu Location

In the **Menu Location** field, select where the new module appears in the navigation menus (**Plan**, **Engage**, or **Reflect**). The menu location defaults to the same location as the original module, or to **Plan** when you are copying a template.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Create as Template (optional)

Check the **Create as Template** option if you want the copy to be a reusable template instead of a regular module. Templates are not visible to end users and can be used as starting points when creating new modules. When this option is checked, the menu location is set to **Template** and your **Menu Location** selection is ignored. See [Module Templates](/administration/administration/module-builder/module-templates.md) for details.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Copy

Click **Copy** to create the copy. The new module is created with a single, unpublished draft version containing the sections, fields, options, conditional logic, and system codes from the original. You are returned to the new module's detail page, where **Edit Draft** opens the copy's [Module Setup](/administration/administration/module-builder/module-setup.md) page.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**NOTE:** Only the original module's newest version is copied, and it becomes version 1 of the new module. If the original has a live version plus a newer draft, the copy is made from that draft. Earlier versions and the original's version history are not carried over.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**TIP:** Copying a module does not copy response data. The new module starts with zero responses.
{% endhint %}
